All You Want to Know about Local Authority Housing Finance in Scotland 2011

Scottish authorities face the challenge of achieving the ‘Scottish Housing Quality Standard’ by 2015 and an enhanced standard by 2020 while continuing to set affordable rents. In 2010 the United Kingdom government announced a Spending Review that led to a Scottish budget for 2011/12 that included a reduction in funding and proposals to ‘reform’ housing benefits that are opposed by the Scottish Government. However, the Council House Building Fund continues to operate and new council houses are being built. The Housing (Scotland) Act 2010 restricted the Right to Buy and reformed regulation In February 2011 this was followed by the Strategy and Action Plan for Housing in the next decade. In future landlords’ performance will be assessed with reference to a Housing Charter.
